Neurological/brain based disorders such as depression or autism may very well have their true root origins in the gut. Science now knows that there are more neuronal cells in the GI tract than in the human brain, making the gut a kind of “second brain.” These second brain neurons are tightly wired to the first brain. All neuronal cells “talk” to one another through the production of chemical messages called neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine. A big discovery recently was that the microorganisms in our gut also make these neurotransmitters. During times of stress, our gut bacteria may be talking to our “first brains” through the neurons located in lining of our GI tract. 
 
The  human microbiome functions in regulating and maintaining health, control of unwanted pathogens in the gut,  regulation of inflammation and immunity, synthesis of vitamin K and biotin,  enhanced mineral bioavailability, synthesis of many neurotransmitters,  liver health and detoxification pathways, regulation of hormonal metabolism blood sugar and appetite regulation (weight control). 
 
Antibiotics are used to kill disease causing bacteria, but inevitably they disrupt the healthy microbiome. Probiotics are found in fermented products and in food supplements that add to and promote healthy bacteria in the gut. Typical symptoms that can be improved by the regular consumption of probiotics include constipation, diarrhoea,  vaginitis,  bloating, flatulence,  lactose intolerance,  indigestion,  food allergies and  “brain fog”. 
 
Because the gut is considered to be the largest organ of the immune system, it is not surprising that probiotics are associated with better immune function. How do bacteria in the gut help our immunity? Via the mighty Macrophage. These cells act like a “Pacman” to not only gobble up invading viruses and bacteria, they generally direct the other elements and cell types in a synchronized immune defense. 
 
There are two branches of the immune system in which the macrophage functions: the innate (non-specific immune defense) and the adaptive (specific immune defense mechanisms). Macrophages are themselves signal-directed. The signal that activates macrophages (and subsequently the whole immune response) is a glycoprotein (a molecule made up of a sugar and a protein) called “Gc protein-derived Macrophage Activating Factor.” The abbreviation for this long name isGcMAF. The important precursor to GcMAF is “Gc”, a big protein with 458 amino acids containing three domains. The first domain of Gc binds vitamin D. For this reason Gc is sometimes called “vitamin D binding protein”. There’s a small sugar attached on the threonine amino acid at position 420 of Gc. This makes position 420 “glycosylated.” When injury, inflammation, or any immune challenge is detected in the body, the sugar at position 420 is then “deglycosylated” by enzymes produced by B and T-lymphocytes. The result is the conversion of Gc into GcMAF—one of the most powerful activators of the entire immune system discovered to date. 
 
Why doesn’t our innate GcMAF do a better job of protecting us? Why are there so many  immunological disorders? There are many conditions with significant immune dysfunction: AIDS,  Cancer,  Autism,  Crohn’s, Colitis,  Psoriasis, Chronic Fatigue,  Fibromyalgia,  Candidiasis,  Rheumatoid Arthritis, MS,  Lupus , Severe IBS,  Parkinson’s and Alzheimers. 
 
It turns out that there is a nasty enzyme at work that actually inactivates the Gc before it can be activated to GcMAF. This enzyme’s technical name is: alpha-N-acetylgalactosaminidase — abridged to the name NAGALASE.  So, ironically, when the body needs immune support the most, it is left with idle macrophages. High Nagalase levels have been shown to correlate with Autism, Aids, cancer and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The good news here is that GcMAF is itself NOT inactivated by nagalase. This fact opens the door of possibilities for people with autism.
 
GcMAF has now been synthesized in the laboratory. It has been given by injection to thousands of children with autism in the last year with excellent results. There are now over 40 published studies from different research groups that document the effects of GcMAF in vitro and in patients with cancer, aids, autism and other diseases. However this approach is VERY expensive, not available in Australia and unlikely to be used by the masses long term. Is there a way to economically and safely get macrophage activating factors to those who need it?

Dosing guidelines:
It is recommended to have an appointment with someone in Dr Heather Way’s team before starting Bravo. It is important to have a fully  functional Vitamin D receptor and high levels of Vitamin D. Thus we like to sequence people first, particularly those on the autism spectrum as their vitamin receptors are often not functioning well and the Bravo GcMAF will not work.  
Bravo probiotic yogurt is taken after the evening main meal of protein and leafy greens. It is best, if possible, to hold the yogurt in the mouth and swish around for 10-30 seconds to allow the GcMAF to pass though sublingually. (It is understood that this is a challenge for ASD children and may not happen, but adults generally have no trouble with this.) Next swallow and don’t rinse out the mouth or clean teeth for at least 30 minutes. It is recommended to take the Bravo Probiotic Yoghurt for at least 3 months to receive the best benefit.
  • Autistic children start at 1ml/day, increasing by 1ml/day according to symptoms. Most reach 20ml/day but some may even get as high as 50 ml/day. It is suggested to use a syringe to dose.

We prefer to use camel milk as it does not make the caso-morphins in the same way that cow and goat milk do. These caso-morphins bind to opioid brain receptors and cause trouble for people on the spectrum. You must use a mammal milk as the process requires colostrum to produce GcMAF. Bravo can NOT be made on almond, rice, soy or any other “fake” milk.
Instructions:
Goat Milk:
Simply take 1L pasturised camel milk and mix in the 2 powders (included in the kit). Leave covered with alfoil at room temperature for 24 hours. It will not thicken much and is more like a drinking yogurt. 
Cow milk (or other mammal milk):
If you have no access to goat milk we prefer to use the lowest possible casein milk. Boil one litre of low casein “A2” cow milk, allow to cool, strain the milk to remove the thick layer off the top – this is the remaining denatured casein from the milk – discard this layer. Take the remaining milk and mix in the powders (included in the kit), leave covered with alfoil at room temperature. 24 hours later, you will have a thick Bravo Probiotic Yoghurt ready to eat – which lasts up to two weeks.
